Committee Descriptions
After-school Programs (Sept-June) - Chairs: Melanie Hansen and Kristin Byrne (Spanish only)

Identify activities that children might like to participate in; work with the different providers of these programs; advertise the activities; possibly help out on the days these activities are held.  The committee need not run the activities themselves, but rather ensure that each activity has the appropriate resources (space, volunteer support, etc.)

Bingo (March) - Chairs: Melissa Susini and Pamela Smith bingo@drespta.org
Assist in planning family Bingo night. An evening of thrills and excitement in eager anticipation of "BINGO!"  Tickets must be purchased in advance, and seating is limited.  Refreshments  are available for purchase.

Book Drive and Sale (Jan) - Chairs: Kristin Byrne and Donna Balderson

Each year the PTA collects new and gently used children's books from students, staff members, and the community.  Deep Run students are given the opportunity to select and purchase books for 25 cents each. The proceeds from this event supplement the purchase of new reading materials for the schools.

Box Tops (September-April) - Chairs: Sherry Hibbard and Lynn Truong boxtops@drespta.org
Collect, package and send box tops periodically.  The committee has also held competitions among the students to increase participation. Much of the work can be done at home.

Cultural Arts (Sept-June) - Chair: Susan Shermock culturalarts@drespta.org
This is a program which complements the school curriculum by providing enrichment programs during the school day. The committee works with the school at the beginning of the year on program selection and scheduling, and a committee member is present at each performance.

Donuts with Guys (November) - Chairs: Scott Kuperman and Jill Witkin

This is an annual DRES event for Dads. Volunteers are need to plan staff and advertise event.

Family Movie Outing (Fall and Spring) - Chair: Linda Carmody

Assist in planning family movie outing in the Spring.

Fundraising (September-October) - Chair: Susan Hinz

Our primary fundraiser is in September through October.  The committee prepares packets to go home on the first day/week of school. processes orders during September, and distributes orders and prizes in October.

Market Day (September-June) - Chair: Michele McHale marketday@drespta.org
This is a fundraiser selling frozen dinners and food products to the DRES community.  The committee takes the orders and distributes products at the school on a monthly basis.

Membership (August-October) - Chairs: Dorothea Sample and Kristin Mentz membership@drespta.org
This committee will coordinate yearly campaigns to promote PTA membership to new parents and teachers. Help distributing PTA information and membership applications, collecting and processing dues and disseminating membership cards. Assist with membership tables at Back to School events during August and September.

Donuts with Gals (October) - Chair: Scott Kuperman and Jill Witkin

This is an annual DRES event for Moms. Volunteers are need to plan staff and advertise event.

Newsletter (Monthly) - Chair: Linda Carmody

A newsletter published three to four times each year keeping parents informed about PTA sponsored activities, fundraisers, news and events. Assist with solicit articles for inclusion in PTA newsletter, help edit and distribute newsletter.

Orioles' Game (Fall and Spring) - Chair: Denise Tootle-Mason oriolesgame@drespta.org
Assist in planning family night at Orioles game.

Restaurant Night Out (September-June) -Chair: Kim Pace

Establish relationships and make contacts with local restaurants to negotiate fundraising opportunities.  Coordinate with the PTA and School Administration in setting even dates and approval for distribution of materials, create flyers, and advertise events through school and PTA resources.

Staff Appreciation (Sept-June) - Chairs: Danielle Coombs and Kathy Priller

Organize program to recognize and thank staff and to make sure the DRES staff knows they are appreciated.  Provide dinners during conference periods.  Bakers and cooks welcome! In addition to cooking, volunteers are needed to serve, decorate, and clean-up.

Scholastic Book Fair (Feb) - Chair: Jayne Considine and Danielle Coombs

Organize the the book fair by getting volunteers to help setup and disassemble the fair, schedule classes to vist and keep track of all the finances.


Student Directory (Sept-Oct) - Chair: Debra Switalski

Prepare directory information forms for first-day folders, compile and lay out directory information, and have directory printed and distributed.  DRES provides this annual directory to all DRES families during the first grading quarter of the school year.

Volunteer Coordinator (Sept-Oct) - Chair: Vacant

Recruit and coordinate volunteers for programs and activities.  A volunteer Solicitation form of opportunities to volunteer for PTA & School Wide Activities will be sent home on the first day of school.  Just selected the activities you wish to volunteer for and return the form to the school.
